Resto-modded iPod Classics: Status = successful project. Need to advertise & sell
iPod classics came with 650mah batteries, HDD storage (160GB max) and an OS that only allowed .aac songs added through iTunes software.
Well fuck that. We now have 3500mah batteries (~2 weeks p/charge). Up to 1TB of SD storage. And 'rockbox', a free & open source OS that allows complete customisation, mp3 and flac files loaded like a regular USB drive. and plays Doom.
Budget self-hosted cloud storage with network access: Status = havent started yet.
I want to connect my 4TB hard drive with 5 years of collected movies, TV shoes, personal photos and data through a rasberry pi single board computer to my wifi router so I can stream media anywhere in the world, and backup my phone and laptop work each night... Stay tuned.

Now we've let the biggest butt-heads (that is, most ambitious in the pursuit of hijacking the cognitive biases and survival impulses of our primal minds) stab their arrogant flags into this world they didn't create, only converted into a wealth extraction machine that chews up the growing minds of the world, and spits out narcissists, sociopaths, and shells of humanity, riddled with paranoia and force-fed ideologies and identities, algorithmically tuned to keep each of us coming back.
As mainstream software became increasingly parasitic, the underground grew. Punks and freedom fighters focused their energy on merging the philosophies of the early internet with the advanced technologies of today.
With microcomputers, FOSS (Free & Open Source Software) and the outstanding developments of Linux Distributions, we are at the forefront, the beginning of something big.

It's an ugly mess and some things don't flow intuitively.

What's wrong with socials?
Because there's something wrong with the digital gardens we've been trying to cultivate on the Mega-Corp apps. Being bombarded by whatever these parasites find will keep up engaged.
People like me, with my background and psychological conditioning, will likely be fed with constant conflict, violence and threat-detection media and advertising. Things that validate the fight/flight response embedded in those with violent childhood trauma.
but the 'healthy ones' don't get away so easy either. plagued with cognitive biases that are leveraged against us to sell individuality, or turning us - through our narcissism - into serfs, cropping the lands of our techno-feudal lords so they can harvest data from us and those who form isolating, para-social relationships with us from their own lonely world.
I am a test subject. living proof that even attention-seeking ADHD folks can break free from the hackers of our minds and souls. All we need is a mixture of distain for our overlords, the desire to live by our values, and knowledge; of self, of the systems that imprison us, and of the alternative lives that we each have the power to live.
